26th-Oct-2008 12:59 am - crazy football world

In what reality do Buckeye fans live? Apparently not the real one. The dispatch has an online poll:

Do you consider this a "lost season" for the Ohio State football team?
Yes: 66%
No: 34%

Really? We have two losses, to top-5 (at the time) ranked teams, and people are already willing to give it up? I guess this is what happens when you make the national championship game in what, 3 of the last 7 years? Of course I'd love to see the Bucks do well and actually perform in big games and get another national championship. The 2003 game vs. Miami is still one of the best football games I have ever watched (along with the 2001 Arkansas vs. Ole Miss 7 overtime game that Jeff and I watched together). But it's funny what you come to expect when things have been going well.

It's like fall and spring. When it's been so cold all winter, 50 in April is shorts season on campus. When 50 hits again in the fall is sweater and jacket weather.
25th-Sep-2008 10:45 am - unhelpful notes

before I left work yesterday, I left myself a note to remember to do something today. it reads: "test for small"

I have no clue what I meant by this. grr!!

Christmas Story
"Asian countries are much further away geographically than most Latin American or Caribbean countries. For example, India is almost 8,000 miles away from the nearest major U.S. immigrant gateway city, while Mexico shares a border with the United States."

really? how is this a necessary sentence in an academic journal?

Magic went off to doggie heaven this evening. We will miss her, but her life just wasn't very joyful like a dog's life should be anymore, so I think its for the best.

if you like David Sedaris and the Daily Show, and missed him on the show in June, go here and watch the clip. Even if you sawit the first time, you should watch it again  :)
12th-Aug-2008 11:00 am - i win the stupid award
Christmas Story
I win the stupid award for the day, hands down.

On the bus from West Campus to my class, i realized I did not have an insulin pump attached to me. I apparently was too busy trying to do my hair (new haircut) that I forgot to pick it up after my shower. Never done that before.

thankfully I was able to stop in the student health pharmacy and buy some insulin and syringes. I have never really carried back up stuff with me on a day-to-day basis, but apparently I need to start. it was weird taking a shot, but I didn't have much choice.

6th-Aug-2008 08:58 pm - 3 things from fridge
Cameron at Art Museum
My boss likes to ask us random questions for us to think about and share the answers at the end of meetings. i think its a group bonding exercise since our "team" is a somewhat new creation, although I am certainly the newest member.

Last time it was: what one thing would you save from your house if it was on fire and all the people/animals were already safe? most of us said something like family photos

Today's question:
What three things from your fridge can you not live without?

my answer (slightly modifying fridge to include pantry): bananas, chocolate, and peanut butter (kept in fridge since I only like natural PB).

what three things in your fridge/pantry you cannot live without?
31st-Jul-2008 08:20 pm - tour temper
cycling
One of the Australian riders who finished 2nd in the Tour last year and this year apparently has a temper. I'm sure its annoying to deal with reporters stuffing their microphones in your face all the time, but come on! if they didn't test so heavily for doping i might suggest he's got a bad case of 'roid rage!

He's becoming quite popular on youtube:

22nd-Jun-2008 08:49 pm - grandma update

surgery went really well today, Gram was back in her room in 3 hours, and by 4 hours post surgery she was awake, alert, and marveling at the wonders of science that she was pain free (even if it was anesthesia-induced). i'm going to visit with her a little in the morning, they said they'll have her up and moving about tomorrow, get her started on therapy. it's pretty amazing that they can replace an almost 90 year old's hip and have her up and walking the next day.

A few weeks ago, my Grandma B (dad's mom) fell out of bed. after several weeks of car trips and pain, she finally got a bone scan this week and turns out she has a hairline fracture. so she needs to rest so it can heal.

my plan for this weekend was: cleveland to visit my parents & go to Luke's cousin's graduation party, then to Akron to visit my grandma, then back to c-bus.

this morning, my aunt calls. my Grandma C (mom's mom) fell on her front steps, broke her hip, and has to have hip replacement surgery tomorrow. she was in so much pain she's on morphine, my Protestant minister's wife grnadma who doesn't drink.

so now I'm in Port Clinton at Luke's parents house, halfway between Lakeside and the hospital (5 mins each way). the upside is i get to spend some time in Lakeside and see my mom's family. obviously the downside is that my 89 year old grandmother has to have surgery. It's at noon tomorrow, so by tomorrow afternoon I should know how things are going.

on a more amusing note, at the graduation party, Luke's cousin (a recent criminiology major from OSU) had some friends over, and good friend was there, who is apparently in my stats class this summer. bet he never imagined he's go to his friend's house and see his teacher!
